I’ve loved the Manic Street Preachers ever since I found a tape of theirs (The Holy Bible) to rent from my local library. I took that (and Aaliyah - confusingly) on a family holiday to Cornwall and walked around St Michael’s Mount listening to Yes over and over. Being at such a historical place and listening to lyrics such as tie his hair in bunches, fuck him, call him Rita if you want while I walked alongside my dad seemed like the most rebellious thing I could possibly do at that age.
13 years and a spur-of-the-moment booking later and I saw them at the 02 for their one-off “National Treasures” show (all 38 singles. All. Of. Them). Thanks to the bar beforehand and a wristband for free booze (thanks Nina) I was tipsy and crying along to Design For Life. And buying merchandise.

I’ve made a Spotify playlist for those not familiar with the Manics. I’ve tried not to be too clever with the song choices and just chosen bangers (past and present - controversial). Enjoy!
